It’s Okay To Be Okay
Last week was rough. I forgot Q-tips and I kept running out of time to drink my drinks before it was dessert time while sitting on the patio listening to the waves from our Florida beach condo. I mean, margaritas are good. Oreos are good. Margaritas and Oreos… not good. What’s a girl to do?!
Of course, I am being sarcastic. Seven days of nothing to do but hang out with my family, sit in the sun, and read books is nothing short of perfect. From the second we stepped off the plane into the humidity, I had the Zac Brown Band buzzing around my head.
I got my toes in the water, ass in the sand
Not a worry in the world, a cold beer in my hand
Life is good today. Life is good today
It was a highlight of 2017, so what did I do?
I felt bad. In the grand state of things from minute personal drama to the general state of American anxiety, there are troubles no matter where you turn. In one of my Facebook friend groups, there was a thread where the gals lamented all the calamities going on in their life. I kept wanting to share a picture of the double rainbow over the beach, the gigantic ice cream cone I shared with Eggroll, the perfect sunset with acoustic guitar playing in the background I was experiencing, but I felt like I needed to hide it. What have I done to earn the good stuff? Why am I not suffering like everyone else?
On our last night there, Randy reminded me that there is plenty in our lives to think about even when it all looks good on the surface (and three layers in.) And, more importantly, if it all caved in tomorrow, what good does it do to not enjoy the good things today? As always, he’s the wisest grasshopper I know.
So, dear friend, let this serve as your reminder that it’s okay to be okay. It’s even better to feel great! If it happens to be vacation week, you certainly should let go of what ails you, but a routine Tuesday can be pretty fun, too. Let’s enjoy today.
I’ve got my toes in my slippers, ass in sweatpants
Plenty of worries in the world, but hot chocolate’s in hand
Life is good today. Life is good today
