Grateful for – All That Is Warm and Fuzzy

Grateful for - All That Is Warm and Fuzzy

Perhaps it’s how my house is positioned, but I swear it’s windier out there. It’s so noisy and everything is being whipped around and your hair is in your face and it’s all confusing and uncomfortable.

Or maybe that’s the news, I’m not sure.

Either way, Dr. Skarich (i.e. my alter ego) has ordered up a prescription for all things cozy and that’s where this edition of the Grateful For Series takes us. Read on to see how you too can calm your mind, your heart, and your hair.

Kristen Ess Shampoo and Conditioner

Let’s start with the serious business – haircare. Seriously look up #curlygirlmethod if you think I’m yanking your chain. As my friend’s husband says, “this is like a cult!” Fortunately, I haven’t fallen over to that dark side yet, but I have found a brand that works great for my curly or straight days. The One Signature Shampoo and Frizz Management Conditioner from Kristin Ess are the bee’s knees, you guys! I have a feeling they will be even better as we get into the winter months as they are so nourishing and smoothing for my frizzy, flyaway hair. Add this to your cart next time you head to Target.

Evvie Drake Starts Over

I used to be a regular listener to the Pop Culture Happy Hour (until I started not recognizing anything current pop culture-y, oops!) and have been a long-time fan of Linda Holmes. I knew she had a way with words and a personal love for romance novels, so I wasn’t sure what to expect from her debut novel, Evvie Drake Starts Over. You guys – this is the cutest book of 2019. It is a romance, but not in the bodice-ripping kind of a way. More in a lets-include-all-the-pop-references-and-show-romance-how-a-girl-wants-it way (i.e. involving a baseball player, wink, wink.) Truly a beach read in every way, which means it’s a perfect Maggie read.

Corner Bakery

Guys, I know I’m supposed to like local coffee shops. I do when it’s really cold (hi Stone Creek Coffee on Oakland! I love your hot chocolate and how no one is allowed to talk. Two of my favorite things!), but during the summer I prefer an ice cold fountain Diet Coke. I know, I know… It’s the worst for me, but you guys, the bubbles from the Corner Bakery’s fountain are pretty darn close, if not equal to that of a McDonald’s. And here I can get a monster M&M cookie! Pair all that with the fact that my local one (like seriously blocks from my house) has great internet and easy access to electricity, well, I pretty much live there any day I’m not in the kitchen. Their actual lunch food isn’t the best, but it’s a great place for a small group meeting or place to pop in and get work done.

Biltrite Furniture

I got an itch late in the summer for some kind of big life change. Should we move? Get a dog? Train for a marathon? If I’m being honest, I don’t have the time or energy for any of those things, so instead I’m just redecorating our living room. When we moved in five years ago, we just threw in all (I mean ALL) the furniture we already had. Also, I tried a cute little paint thing on built-in bookshelves that have been bothering me from the start.

Step one to our own Magnolia home is to get a new couch. Given the layout of the room, I knew I wanted a sectional with a chaise, but that was about it. Well, long story short and three furniture stores (and one online store swatch box) later, we ended up where we always end up for furniture – Biltrite Furniture. They are simply the best place in town. Plenty of selection, but not too much. Attentive salespeople, but not too much. Always good sales, (though never too much). Bonus – they are run by a local woman, the fourth generation of the family to do so. I love those kinds of stories!

In the end, we got pretty much the same couch we have now but with the chaise. Hey, we like what we like I guess. Will share pictures as soon as it comes in. In the meantime, who wants an old couch, or chair, or bench, or lamps, or…. Seriously so. much. furniture.

Grace and Frankie

Have you watched Grace and Frankie on Netflix yet? I feel like everyone I ask has either seen every episode twice or never even heard of it. If you fall into the latter camp, get on it! I’m a little uncomfortable with how much I understand the old lady jokes, but the actors that play the kids our age are also hilarious!! It’s a very touching show that will make you LOL while appreciating the older peeps in your life a lot more.

So that’s what’s making me happy these days. How about you?
